An exhibition by Lupen Crook
Crook’s work as a painter deals with the artefacts and curios of everyday life, alongside an intimate exploration of private moments and scenes from the artist’s life.Painting primarily in oil on wooden panels, his imagery includes an exploration of surreal figurative impressions juxtaposed with quietly subverted landscape and still life scenes.
This is Crook’s first solo exhibition in Margate following successful shows in both Ramsgate and Rochester across Summer 2024. Previously, he has exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, London, with his work being held in private collections across the UK, Europe and the US.

Co-founder of the legendary Good Times Sound System and London dance music station KISS FM, Jay fostered the ‘Rare Groove’ scene pushing the boundaries of the UK’s emerging club culture and awarded an MBE for services to deejaying and music in 2017.
He continues to convert generations of clubbers to the cause, championing new sounds, yet never forgetting his musical roots, thus guaranteeing nothing but ‘Good Times’.

Robin Ince at the Crab Museum

Author, comedian and scientist Robin Ince gives a talk at the museum, diving deep into the mind!
Robin’s work often looks at science from the outside-in, so he’s a perfect fit for our outsider museum! You may have already heard his voice as a co-host of Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage alongside rock star and physicist Brian Cox.
You may have also seen his name plastered across the front covers of excellent books such as ‘I’m a Joke and So Are You’, ‘Bibliomaniac’ and ‘The Importance of Being Interested’. And now for one night only, you can bear witness to him at the museum!

Afro Blue – Listening In Colour

An immersive experience presented by some of the UK’s finest Jazz musicians featuring vocalists Randolph Matthews and Sabina Desir with arrangements by Jessica Lauren at Turner Contemporary in Margate
A joyful expression of the powerful, visionary and cathartic legacy of Black music accompanied by abstract visuals in shades of blue.
Afro Blue features a group of UK Jazz luminaries, each notable in their own right. Winston Clifford is the musician’s musician – the singer’s first choice of drummer, a consummately melodic and expressive player, with a CV of the greatest names in 20th and 21st Century Jazz.
Jason Simpson’s deep, resonant double bass provides the bedrock for the group. Jessica Lauren’s piano, organ and electric keys bring a lush palette of colours to the mix, and featured soloist Tamar Osborn is a new star of Jazz, Afrobeats and Contemporary music, playing baritone saxophone, flutes and clarinet with a special lyricism and power.
Vocalist Randolph Matthews features as special guest, his charismatic singing and spoken word weaving together with Sabina and the band to make for a moving and joyful evening of song and music.

‘Liminal Salon II’ a group exhibition spotlighting 32 artists who have exhibited in the two exhibition spaces; Main Space and The Cupboard, over the past two years. The exhibition offers a diverse range of voices through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage and print. While the artists vary in media, scale, and concept, they share a sense of community that brings them together.
‘Liminal Salon II’ includes work by established artists as well as those beginning to make their mark, with works which are small in size and promote accessibility. The presentation of many different mediums and disciplines, come together to form a full picture of the rich variety in contemporary art today.
The eclectic selection of works demonstrate the wide-ranging conceptual concerns of the Liminal roster; ranging from the intimate representation of identity, the use of abstraction and figuration as a means to explore a sense of place, and the consideration of form and texture as fundamental formal elements.

Cliftonville Farmers Market

Cliftonville Farmers’ Market was established in 2001 by the Cliftonville Residents Association and is run entirely by volunteers.

Dr Rachel Seoighe is Honorary Senior Lecturer, in Criminology at the University of Kent where her primary research has focused on the closure of Holloway Prison in London.
Rachel’s research has explored women’s experiences and memories of the closure which happened in 2016. She has been involved in activism that has called for a visionary women’s building on the site, as a feminist, abolitionist project.

Spooktacular Scarecrow Trail

Spooky scarecrows have taken over and are scaring away the wildlife at Pegwell Bay Country Park!
Upon arrival head to the cafe to pick up your trail sheet before setting out on a quest to track them down, the trail takes place around circular pathed route, taking around an hour to complete. Find them all to claim your prize!
