Was Alex innocent in Prisoners? ›

And of course—spoilers for a 10-year-old movie follow—the capper for all this is that Alex is innocent. The actual culprit, Jake Gyllenhaal's brooding detective learns, is Alex's mother Holly (Melissa Leo), a serial abductor of children, including Alex.

Did they find Keller at the end of Prisoners? Technically no but it is implied that they did. In the final shot, as Loki stands in reflection of the case he hears a faint whistle. He shakes it off thinking it's in his head but he hears it again and he turns back towards the Trans Am before it cuts to black.

Keller is alive and is blowing his daughter's red whistle for help. Loki hears it and shrugs it off, but as the whistle's sound amplifies, Loki realizes something is off, and then the camera cuts to black. The End.

The snakes seem to be mostly an assortment of different kinds of rat snakes and corn snakes with some other species mixed in such as a ribbon snake or garter snake.

She and her husband, the man whose body was found in the priest's basement, had abducted many other children, including Bob Taylor, in order to make their parents lose faith. She claims to be waging "a war on God" for letting their son die of cancer. Jones was the first child they abducted, at age 7 (26 years ago).

As Loki looks around her house, Loki finds a picture of Holly's husband wearing a necklace that has the same maze design on the body in the priest's basement. He finds Holly in a room about to inject Anna with dose of deadly drugs. She then pulls a gun and the two exchange gunfire, wounding Loki and killing Holly.

Prisoners Is Based On Aaron Guzikowski's Short Story, Not A True Story. Screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski wrote the original short story that inspired the movie Prisoners in 2007.

Alex wasn't the kidnapper/serial killer; he only took the girls for a joyride. As Holly later explains to Keller, "I was the one who decided they should stay." The girls didn't cry until Alex left them because they weren't kidnapped until after Alex left them.

Unfortunately, for those hoping that the ambiguous ending leaves room for Prisoners 2, a sequel would be even more damaging to what the original movie achieved. The ending is meant to be unanswered even if the alternate ending suggests Prisoners has the happy ending fans were hoping for.

The kidnappings were orchestrated by Holly and her husband, who lost their faith and wanted to create demons out of people to wage a war on God. The ending of the movie is intentionally ambiguous, leaving audiences on edge and questioning if Dover will ever be found.

Why did the girl say Keller was there in Prisoners? ›

When Keller tried asking Joy where Anna was, she said to him 'you were there'. Keller realizes that it was Holly Jones who kidnapped his daughter, not Alex.

In the end,, Keller is left in the pit beneath the Jones' pick-up truck for days after Loki saves Anna from Holly. The very last scene in the film sees Loki standing defeated in front of Holly's house, hearing a faint whistle that is being blown by Keller in the pit.

The maze leads Detective Loki to uncover essential truths, driving him toward the center to rescue a missing girl. Keller Dover's reckless behavior represents an alternative approach to navigating the maze, resulting in significant losses and ultimately failure in the end.

Loki's twitching is just one of the ways that Gyllenhaal lets the audience know that he is starting to crack under pressure, just barely keeping his cool throughout the film's incredibly stressful events.

At one point her husband confessed his crimes to a local priest, out of a narcissistic boldness of feeling unable to get caught. He was subsequently killed by the priest, who threw the body into the church's basement.

At the end, Alex is reunited with his family after 26 years, and Kellar is left calling for help, blowing the missing whistle that Anna and Joy went off to find in the first place. That whistle set in motion the plot of "Prisoners," so it's fitting that it brings the movie to a close.
