Garrisons play a major role in Warlords of Draenor. They are not optional,meaning that you must build one to progress through the introductoryquest line of your faction in Draenor and unlock the rest ofthe continent. Your Garrison is designed as acentral hub for everything the expansion brings.
- The Garrison is where you get all the new patterns foryour professions.
- The Garrison is where you gain access to Ashran where theAlliance and Horde hubs are located (the flight path to Ashran isunlocked during a quest given at the Garrison). This isespecially important to PvP players, because Ashran iswhere the Draenor outdoor PvP zone is located.
- You can use your Garrison to farm a decent amountof ores, herbs, leather, and fur every day without havingMining, Herbalism, or Skinning as a profession on your character.
- Garrison missions allow you to get gear of item level higherthan the difficulty you are currently running (for example,Heroic raiders can get Mythic gear). See ourFollower Missionguide.
- The quest line to obtainthe Legendary rings starts in your Garrison.
- The Garrison is a major source of Apexis Crystals, whichcan be contained in every Work Order you complete at your Garrison. Seeour Apexis Crystals guidefor more details.
- Seals of Tempered Fate can also be obtainedat the Garrison with little effort. You can get 1 froma weekly follower mission that randomly pops up inyour mission list and your Level 3Dwarven Bunker /War Mill automatically gives you 1 every week.
The Garrison also gives you access to many rewards, like pets,mounts, vanity items, transmogrification gear, which we aregoing to try and list in an exhaustive manner in this article.
1.
New in 6.2?
The main change in 6.2 is the addition of a shipyard to yourGarrison. It works in very much the same way as your mission table,in that you can build ships, send them on missions, and getrewards. Almost all of the new Garrison rewards come from theshipyard, so we advise you to read ourShipyard guide.
There is also a change that most players will welcome and that doesnot appear in the patch notes. You can now skip the completed missionanimations at the mission table by pressing space.
You can also acquired two new pets.
- Cinder Pup is rewarded bya Follower Mission.
- Shard of Cyrukh is rewarded at the end of the Tanaan Jungle GarrisonCampaign (on the fifth week).
Finally, the quartermasters of your new factions in Tanaan Jungle, Hand of the Prophet and Vol'jin's Headhunters,sell Trade Agreement: Arakkoa Outcasts. This item costs 2,500 ,requires revered reputation with theArakkoa Outcasts, andincreases the maximum size of your Garrison Cache to 1,000. This givesyou a Garrison Cache that can hold up to 1,000 Garrison Resources,allowing you to empty it much less often (it takes about 6 days to fill up).
2.
New in 6.1?
The main change in 6.1 is that Garrison with a Level 3 Town Hall willhave one of 5 new visitors come each day and offer a daily quest of a specifickind: Dungeon, Raid, Bounty, Relic, or Profession.
- Dungeon. Dungeon daily quests require you to kill the last boss of a dungeonand reward you with a bag that has a chance to contain a level 630, 645, or 655 item token.
- Raid. Raid quests are weekly and not daily. They reward you with a bag that has a chanceto contain a level 645 or 655 item token.
- Bounty. Bounty quests are intended for 3 or more players and require you to defeata named elite NPC. They reward you with a bag that contains Apexis Crystalsand that have a chance to contain a level 645 or 655 item token.
- Relic. Relic quests are given to you by Harrison Jones when he visits yourGarrison. There are 6 such quests and they reward a bag that contains Apexis Crystals and thathas a chance to contain a level 645 or 655 item token. Completing a relic question unlocksa mission of a similar name for your followers. Completing all 6 relic quests grants you the Master Relic Hunter achievement, which is required for Don't Call Me Junior, the meta-achievement that grants you Harrison Jones as a follower(the other required achievement used to be Exploration Mission Master).
- Profession. Profession quests simply allow you to trade basic reagents (ore,herbs, dust, etc.) directly for Primal Spirits or for tradeskill reagents( Gearspring Parts, Alchemical Catalysts, etc.).
While doing any of these new quests, with the exception of profession quests,you have a chance to obtain an item that allows you to summon one of the 6 newraid or world bosses in your Garrison. Summoned raid or world bosses have scalinghealth and are intended for 10-40 players. The bosses and the items neededto summon them are:
- Annihilon — Void Prison;
- Commander Dro'gan — Bloodied Iron Horde Banner;
- Gaur — Runed Greatstone;
- Lady Fleshsear — Legion Beacon;
- Mage Lord Gogg'nathog — Arcane Highmaul Relic;
- Teluur — Heart of Oak.
Defeating all these bosses grants you the Master and Commander achievement.
Finally, Sergeant Crowler (Alliance) and Sergeant Grimjaw (Horde)now allow you to spend your Garrison Resources on a number of useful items:
- Follower Ability Retraining Manual and Follower Trait Retraining Guide,which allow you to re-roll traits and abilities separately on your followers;
- Rush Orders, whichallow you to instantly finish 5 Work Orders in the Garden, the Mine, the Barn,the Gladiator's Sanctum, the Dwarven Bunker / War Mill, and the Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop;
- Scouting Missives,which allow you to do the Apexis Daily quest of your choice.
From the Patch Notes, there also is a vendor who is supposedto sell follower upgrades, so we will get back to you with more information oncethe Patch has been released.
3.
Unlocking Your Garrison
Your Garrison is unlocked almost immediately after starting in Draenor,in Shadowmoon Valley for Alliance players or Frostfire Ridge for Horde players.You need to follow the main quest line and, after a few quests,you will end up with aGarrison Level 1 in which Barracks Level 1 are built.
4.
Garrison Resources
Garrison Resources are used to:
- build or upgrade Garrison buildings;
- send followers on missions (some missions do earn you Garrison Resources instead, but they are rare, so donot expect to make a profit);
- buy crafting reagents at the Trading Post;
- place Work Orders at the Dwarven Bunker /War Mill.
Garrison Resources are earned from:
- the Garrison Cache, which is an object located next to your Town Hallthat you unlock during the introductory quest line in your starting zone andthat generates 1x Garrison Resource every 10 minutes (up to a maximum of 500, 1,500with Trade Agreement: Arakkoa Outcasts);
- the Lumber Mill, where Work Orderscan generate up to 120x Garrison Resources per day;
- the Trading Post, where Work Orderscan generate up to 180x Garrison Resources per day;
- completing quests in your Garrison (but they are not usually repeatable);
- killing named mobs in Draenor.
If you only rely on your Garrison Cache for Garrison Resources generation,then you are looking at 144 Garrison Resources per day. If you add Work Ordersin either the Lumber Mill, then this number becomes264, and if you add Work Orders in the Trading Post, it becomes 444. Upgradingall your Garrison building to Level 3 (the maximum) costs a bit more than12,000 Garrison Resources, so it will take about a month to geta fully upgraded Garrison.
As you can see, Garrison Resources are very scarce, which is why you wantto go through the introductory quest line on all your alts as soon as possible.This way, you will be able to log onto each of them every few days, to empty theirGarrison Cache and give you extra resources for when you will really start playingthem. Also, rare mobs throughout Draenor give you about 30 Garrison Resourceswhen you kill them, so farming them can be a great way to develop your Garrison faster.
4.1.
Garrison Hearthstone
An important item in your Garrison is your Garrison Hearthstone,which allows you to teleport back to your Garrison. This item is on a differentcooldown than your regular Hearthstone, which is important, because it meansthat you can set your Hearthstone in the town around which you are questingand easily teleport back and forth between that town and your Garrison.
If you lose your Garrison Hearthstone, speak with the Innkeeperin your Town Hall to get a new one.
There are 20 buildings that you can build: 10 Small buildings, 5 Mediumbuildings, and 5 Large buildings. The size of a building is not an indicationof how powerful or useful it is. Your Garrison has building plots of differentsizes and a Small building can only be placed in a Small building plot, a Mediumbuilding can only be placed in a Medium building plot, and a Large buildingcan only be placed in a Large building plot. This isprobably meant to add some constraints and force players to build different typesof buildings (and not just Large buildings or just Small buildings). You canmanage your buildings by using the Architect Table that you will find in yourTown Hall. Each building you build is initially at Level 1 and you canupgrade it to Level 2, and then to Level 3, each time unlockingnew perks.
You cannot destroy a building, but you can replace a building withanother one. In the Architect Table, drag the desired building anddrop it onto the building you wish to replace.
After unlocking your Garrison, its Town Hall is Level 1 and you havebuilding plots for a Large building (which is taken by the Barracks)and for a Small building. As you upgrade your Town Hall, you getmore and more plots, as follows:
- Town Hall Level 1: has1 Small building plot and 1 Large building plot;
- Town Hall Level 2: has 2 Small building plots, 1 Mediumbuilding plot, and 1 Large building plot;
- Town Hall Level 3: has 3 Small building plots, 2 Mediumbuilding plots, and 2 Large building plots.
Upgrading your Town Hall from Level 1 to 2 costs200x Garrison Resources, teaches you how to build all Level 1buildings (except for the Salvage Yard), and is doneduring Bigger is Better (Alliance)or Bigger is Better (Horde). Both thesequests require you to finish a good portion of the quest linesin the starting zone of your faction. Alliance players needto finish the quest line in the Twilight Glade, up to Chasing Shadows.Horde players need to finish the quest line involving Ga'nar's vengeance,up to The Eldest.Upgrading the Town Hall to Level 2 has no Level requirement and can bedone as soon as you get the quest.
Upgrading your Town Hall from Level 2 to 3 costs 2,000x Garrison Resources and is doneduring My Very Own Castle (Alliance) orMy Very Own Fortress (Horde). Both these quests aregiven to you when you first visit your Garrison after reaching Level 100.

Building Guides
We have guides for all the buildings. In the table below, you willfind links to our guides (by clicking the buildings' names) andexplanations regarding what each building does. If you want a quickguide that tells you how to unlock the 3 levels of eachbuilding, then you should read ourguide to unlockingall Garrison buildings.
You learn to build all Level 1 buildings when you upgrade your Town Hall toLevel 2, with the exception of the Salvage Yard. To upgrade buildings to Level2 and 3, you will first need to acquire blueprints.Some of these blueprints will only be sold to you if you have earneda specific achievement.

Profession Guides
Garrisons are so tied with professions that we decided to write profession guideswith Draenor and Garrisons in mind:
- Draenor Alchemy guide;
- Draenor Blacksmithing guide;
- Draenor Enchanting guide;
- Draenor Engineering guide;
- Draenor Inscription guide;
- Draenor Jewelcrafting guide;
- Draenor Leatherworking guide;
- Draenor Tailoring guide;
5.3.
Build Order
Your build order depends heavily on what you intend to do with your character, althoughthings are more or less set in stone until you reach Level 100 and build your Town HallLevel 3.
5.3.1.
First Small Building
Your first building will inevitably be a profession building, because you cannotbuild a Salvage Yard before Level 96. So you have the choice between a building forone of your professions or the Enchanter's Study, which allows you to disenchantyour BoP gear and make money selling the disenchanted reagents (or using them tocraft enchants).
5.3.2.
First Large Building
Your first Large building has to be the Barracks, because you need to buildthem to progress through the introductory quest line. Once you get yourfirst Comprehensive Outpost Construction Guide, you can buy the plansfor the Barracks, Level 2 in Ashran and upgrade your building, allowing youto benefit from having a bodyguard with you while in Draenor.
The Stables is also an option. It can provide you 1,620 Garrison Resources over a period of 12 days, which is invaluablein the early stages of your Garrison. It also allows you to remain mountedwhile interacting with objects (such as when you harvest Timber for yourLumber Mill).
5.3.3.
Second Small Building
For your second Small building, you can wait a few levels to have accessto the Salvage Yard, or you can build another profession building.
5.3.4.
First Medium Building
You need a total of 12,950x Garrison Resources to upgrade all of yourGarrison's buildings to Level 3, and resources are really scarce. Using the Garrison Cache alone, it would take youmonths to gather enough resources to build your entire Garrison (not even countingthe resources you have to spend on follower missions). So, we strongly advise you tohave the Lumber Mill as your first Medium building, which you can updateto Level 2 when you reach Level 98 or obtain your Spires of Arak outpost.Once you have almost everything toLevel 3, you can buy something else in its stead.
5.3.5.
After Upgrading to Town Hall Level 3
After you unlock additional building plots with your Town Hall Level 3, youneed to look for buildings that are actually useful to you.
- If you plan on focusing on followers to gear yourself up, then you will need Barracks,Dwarven Bunker / War Mill, Lunarfall Inn / Frostwolf Tavern, and Salvage Yard.
- If you plan on traveling through Draenor a lot, then you will need Barracks,Stables, Mage Tower / Spirit Lodge, and Gladiator's Sanctum (for increase resourceregeneration and safe fall / water breathing).
- If you plan on doing PvP, then you will need Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop andGladiator's Sanctum.
- If you plan to focus on professions, then you will needBarn (if you have Leatherworking and/or Tailoring) and Trading Post. Followers with allprofession traits are available through questing in Draenor (simply browse throughyour follower list in-game), but if you accidentally re-rolled the traits of a professionfollower, then you will need the Lunarfall Inn or Frostwolf Tavern to get a new followerwith that profession trait.
The possibilities are endless, but hopefully, the examples above have givenyou an idea of what to do.
5.4.

5.6.
Garrisons Outposts in Draenor Zones
In Gorgrond, Talador, Spires of Arak, and Nagrand, you will build an Outpost for your Garrisonduring the main quest line of each zone. Your outpost can take 2 different forms,so you need to make a choice and this choice cannot be changed until you reachLevel 100 (at which point you can pay 5,000 to the outpost's foreman to change building). As of Patch 6.1, changing youroutpost allows you to do the quest line associated with it (andearn extra followers).
Wowheadhas a detailed write-up on the subject, which we encourage you to read.
To sum it up, most of the Garrison outposts provide you a zone-widebuff or perk, so for the most part, you need to make the choice between onebuff/perk or another. Spires of Arak is different in the sense that youneed to make a choice between a +20% experience bonus in Spires of Arakor vendors that sell you interesting items, such as a follower contractor a toy.
6.
Follower and Missions
Thanks to your Garrison, you can recruit followersand send them on missions,from which they come back after a few hours with either gear, Gold, andother cool items.
You can have up to 20 active followers (25 with Barracks Level 3). If you have morethan 20 active followers, then you need to deactivate some, until you are left with only20 active followers. If you have more than 20 active followers, you can not startfollower missions. Deactivated followers can be reactivate for a fee of250 . It then take them 1 day to properly reactivate.
Followers can be recruited in Draenor. Some require you to complete a questand others can be recruited when you obtain their contract (through quests, vendors,or follower missions). All of the followers that you can directly recruit in Draenorare shown in your follower window (either at the follower tab of the Mission Table orwhen clicking the Garrison icon next to your minimap). There, you canfind information about them: what abilities/traits they have and where you canrecruit them. You can also recruit followers from your Inn / Tavern,in which case, you can specify the abilities or traits you are most interested in.The Inn / Tavern is very useful for recruiting specific followers (for exampleif you feel that you do not have enough followers with a specific trait).

Invasions are scripted events that happen in your Garrison and requireyou to defeat a small invading army. Invasions happen after you have killeda high number of mobs from a Draenor enemy faction: Botani, Goren, Iron Horde, Ogre,Shadow Council, and Shadowmoon Clan. The number of mobs you need to kill is not publiclyknown, but once you reach it, an army from that faction will invade your Garrison.The invasion takes the form of a scenario, in which you have to complete objectivesin succession, such as killing a specific enemy or defending a position. Dependingon how well/fast you completed these real-time objectives, you are given a score,which eventually decides if you earn a Bronze (300 points), Silver (600 points), or Gold (1,000 points)rating.
